SightMill: How to add meta data for email Net Promoter Score surveys

Adding meta data to enhance your contacts for email surveys

Including meta data for each of your email contacts provides a powerful way to increase your view of feedback, allowing you to filter feedback by (for example) segment, product, user, price points or internal owner.

The meta data is added when you import your CSV file or when you push data from your CRM/helpdesk system to SightMill using APIs or Zapier.

For example, if you are using a CSV file to import your customer contact data, use the additional fields for each contact to store meta data about each contact. This could include their segment, the product they buy, their total spend, their internal owner, or tags to identify other features.

In SightMill, when you import your CSV file you will see that there are eight fields you can use:
  1. firstname,
  2. surname,
  3. email address,
  4. segment,
  5. spend,
  6. product,
  7. tag,
  8. owner
These fields can contain any additional information you want to store with the feedback for a particular user. A few examples would be to include the user's email address if they have an account on your website, or the product they have just bought, the price (or spend) for the product, and you can also include tags (tip: if you include multiple tags, these should be enclosed in double quotes and separated by commas eg "tag1, tag2, tag3" ).

Here's an example of a simple CSV file with a header row and one data row:
Firstname,Lastname,Email,Segment,Spend,Product,Tag,Owner

Jessica,Stickle,hayley-sw1@example.org,Retail,$1500,Bronze-plan,service,CF

This additional meta data about the contact's segment, product, etc is stored by SightMill together with the feedback and displayed in your account in the Verbatims tab:

NOTE: the meta data is NOT recorded or displayed if you have sent out anonymised surveys (for example, for employee surveys).
